Our big Youth CONNection production will be Thoroughly Modern Millie – a high-spirited musical that took Broadway by storm, winning six Tony Awards including Best Musical in 2002. Set in 1922 in New York, it is the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. It is a New York full of intrigue and jazz - a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever. Based on the popular movie, which starred Julie Andrews, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a show filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess audiences love to hate. Join us at Shelton High School for a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment.

Maria is a proud alumnae of the Youth Connection and Shelton
High School Drama Club. She is thrilled be a part of
CenterStage and credits the Scarpas with having a huge
influence on her developing into a professional artist and
Equity Member. Playing Anita in West Side Story on the Youth
Connection Stage carried her around the world and back a few
times on the International Tour directed by Broadway
choreographerJoey McKneely. She most recently starred as
Sheila in A Chorus Line at Forestburgh Playhouse. Other
credits include, Arena Stage, Yale Rep, 7 Angel's Theatre, The
Olney Theatre, American Hawaii Cruises, Cunard Cruise Line,
among others. She currently dances with Sue Samuel's Jazz
Roots Dance Company, and has served on faculty at The
Professional Performing Arts School, and Steps on Broadway.
\Maria's music and dance training has parlayed into a career
as a successful Naam Yoga teacher, at Universal Force
Healing Center in NYC,and she leads many healing workshops
and classes in the surrounding area. She recorded and
produced her first solo album entitled 7th Day Creation, a CD
for meditation and reflection, and can be seen every Sunday
singing at St. Mark Parish in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn where
she now lives.
Come take a musical journey through Maria's years with the
Shelton High School Drama Club (some people still ask her
about Winnifred in Once Upon a Mattress) and The Youth
Connection. Followed by a more personal International journey
of discovering Harmony and Happiness through inspiring
stories she's collected from around the world.
